Mar Aroko  /  アロコ海

Interdisciplinary artist

I am a visual and performing artist trained at the National School of Theatrical Arts in Mexico City. My field of specialization is Performing Arts and practice-based artistic research, with a focus on interdisciplinary creation, and the intersection between performance, body, text, and visual arts.  I was a resident actress at Teatro El Milagro (2018-2021). In 2021 I received the Creadores Escénicxs, SACPC/Fonca-Category: Theater Actresses national grant for my research and educational project From Mind to Matter: A Seminar on Methodologies of Imagination and Creativity for Performing Arts, shared virtually with artists throughout Mexico during 2022.

In 2024 I exhibited my paintings and led a breathing and drawing workshop at MEXIカノ3.0, held at the Mexican Embassy in Japan.

In august 2025, I studied the traditional technique of Kamishibai in order to write and hand-paint an original piece: "Manifiesto Solar 1.0" at Studio Kura in Fukuoka, later performed in Japanese at intimate spaces of Itoshima, with the support of local hosts and families. After returning to Mexico, this work expanded into a scenic piece created in collaboration with Barcodelsol, an emerging artists’ collective dedicated to interdisciplinary live arts, and was presented at Teatro El Milagro, Mexico City, in 2026. This project is currently supported by the national grant Creadores Escénicxs, SACPC/Fonca-Category: Interdiscipline for its presentation and distribution.

Rooted in storytelling, presence and movement, my artwork merges live performance with visual art.

I explore themes of divinity, femininity and poetic violence, while honoring nature and craftsmanship. As an educator and collaborator, I cultivate spaces that embrace diversity and ignite creativity.

Latest interdisciplinary project: MANIFIESTO SOLAR
Through documentary, fictional, and mythological elements, this scenic piece explores how pain and desire influence the construction of identity. The narrative is rooted in the ancient technique of Kamishibai (paper theater) and addresses the theme of reincarnation, emerging from the author's physical wounds to become a story that challenges the boundaries between reality, fantasy, and ritual.
